"Edward Scissorhand"

Another of the great eccentric characters Johnny Depp played as he tried to get rid of the "pretty boy" image he was given after appearing in the TV show "21 Jump Street."

Some say this is a bit empty. So what? Do all movies have to be perceptive commentaries on the human condition? (Besides, this may also be one!) What's wrong with a movie that's just fun and colorful?

An elderly inventor tries to create a boy but dies before he can complete his task. Is the boy complete? Can he survive in a world of the "normal"?

I bought this about 5 years ago and I'm glad I did. I'd forgotten how good it is.

"Elvis Has Left The Building"

A bit of a trifle but pleasant enough. Everywhere a cosmetics saleswoman goes, dead
Elvis-impersonators appear. Is she killing them?

Using the collective unconscious as a club, Abbagoochie Jung Gal vanquishes Evil-Man, the pilfering plumber from Pluto.

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

This is the 1978 version which features cameos by the star and director of the first "IOTBS." Over 30 years have passed since this was made and styles have changed a lot while special effects have advanced to a remarkable degree. Despite all that, this holds up pretty well.

A woman starts to think her husband is no longer her husband. Is she losing her mind or is he really changing?

Who???

Have you met the new superheroine?? Abbagoochie Jung Gal. She transforms into a mythical creature and stuns her adversaries with mystical psychoanalysis.

"Woman On Top"

Combine Penelope Cruz, Brazilian music, and food and you can't lose. Right? Well, perhaps ironically, Cruz has a TV show in this film. When the broadcast loses its ethnicity, it loses its charm. The first five minutes of this and you may think you're in for a Brazilian "Amelie." But when the action moves to San Francisco, some of the story seems silly and amateurish.

Pleasant enough, I suppose, but you may keep wondering about what might have been if they'd just kept the story in Brazil.

There were times I felt as if I were watching a predictable sitcom.

Abbagoochie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A "yarn Bomb" by "Knitorious Meg"... and other scenes.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

YARN BOMB BY KNITORIOUS MEG.

This is about 15 walking minutes away from my bungalow.

Seen from a distance...

"Enchanted"

This is a homage to and gentle spoof of classic Disney animated features. It even has some hand-drawn animation to start the movie.

Giselle, who lives in an actual fairy tale, is sent by an evil queen to real-world New York City. The nasty matriarch does not want Giselle to marry her son.

Amy Adams does a great job as she transforms herself from a person with the typical fairy-tale thoughts and emotions to a woman who finds real love.

Uneven, manipulative, and a little sentimental but it has some moments of real humor and great charm. Good family fare. I wish I had a young daughter with which to watch it.

"Knitorious Meg"

A local "yarn bomber" calls herself that. I'll post a pic of her work later.

Testing...

Penn and Teller's "Bullshit"

Jeez. Just watched a "Bullshit" episode about the dangers of modern cheerleading. One girl went for a tryout and broke her neck. They didn't use a spotter because you can't get points if you have one.

Some advocates want cheering to be OFFICIALLY named a sport so states will run it and impose standards. Apparently one company sells most of the uniforms and trains many "safety" instructors. They train for 3 hours and take an open-book test!

It had me crying because the girl who broke her neck and is paralyzed still loves cheering but tells girls to make sure there are safety procedures in place. The last shot was of her father saying, "It was a bad day," crying, and waving away the camera.

My eyes welled up two or three times during that show.
